Haulover Canal Manatees

Eventually I reached the Kennedy Parkway North that, as its name suggests, heads north out of the Kennedy Space Center. I headed north along it to where the Indian River reaches Mosquito Lagoon.

A hundred years ago a canal was dug to link the two at a narrow neck of land where, in pre-canal days, boats would be hauled over from one navigable waterway to the other.

It was near the bridge over this Haulover Canal I watched a family group of manatees swimming to-and-fro close to the canal wall, delighting a dozen or so human onlookers.

Further north I came across a space tracking antenna that was being constructed (or at least that's what it looked like, but maybe it was being dismantled.)

I next drove south along the US 1 highway, stopping at several of the small townships, until I reached Titusville.
