Two hours after landing it was off and away on a Boeing 747. We quickly passed out over the ocean, although for some time the lights of the seaside towns north of Los Angeles were visible.
With the lights of California disappearing aft a seemingly interminable night began. Fortunately I had been able to secure two isolated seats, so was able to properly lie down and intermittently sleep.
At one point I looked out and saw lights below. Initially I assumed this was Noumea, which we had flown over on the northbound flight. Just then one of the in-flight movies finished, and the navigation data was shown on the screens. This was Fiji.
