Towards The Florida Keys

I used the satellite navigation to get to the "centre" of Melbourne, which turned out to be a rundown section beside a railway line, about 100 metres from the Town Hall. Banners like these were nearby.

With no media events scheduled over the weekend, I decided it was time to fulfil a childhood dream of driving 160 km out into the ocean, with the Atlantic on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. This ambition had been fuelled in the 1950's when reading my grandfather's "National Geographic" magazines.

So, after a second night in Titusville, on Friday April 9 I drove south along US1, through Cocoa to Melbourne, which several locals told me was named after our home city, Melbourne. A few midday photos of the city hall, and it was again southwards to a seaside lunch at Fort Pierce.
