Apollo Monument

The Apollo emblem and memorial plinths.
Bas relief for Pete Conrad, who walked on the Moon in 1969 and saved the Skylab space station in 1973. I had lunch with Pete some years ago, during a visit to Auckland.
Did you know that Neil Armstrong has five fingers and a thumb on his left hand? Go on, count them!

By 11 am we were back at the Press Site, and soon after I headed off to the the Apollo Monument in Space Park, another outdoor part of the Space Walk of Fame Museum in Titusville. I arrived just after noon.

This recently completed walk has bas reliefs and pedestals that tell the story of and celebrate the achievements of those involved in the Apollo, Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz programmes. There were many bronze cast handprints against which one can compare your own.

President Kennedy's role in the Apollo project is acknowledged.
