Lake Okeechobee

Lake Okeechobee is held in by levees, and much of it is ringed by water weeds. The levee forms the horizon at the right of this image.

Wishing to avoid Miami and escape "SIM City" I now headed inland to Lake Okeechobee, arriving there at 4:25 pm.

With frequent sightseeing stops, I skirted the eastern side of the lake, popping up frequently onto the levee to survey the lake and surrounding countryside.

At one point I bought a newspaper because of its coverage of the Bolden and Cabana statements on NASA's future.

Panorama from atop the levee. Lake Okeechobee is at the far right. At left, a canal, held above the surrounding countryside by levees, runs from the lake.

These air boats made about the same noise as a light aircraft. They seemed to be very precarious, with a high centre of mass.Away with a spray!

It was dusk by the time I left the Lake and headed along a very long and very straight road towards Homestead.

By the time I got to Homestead it was well and truly dark, so I checked into a motel for the night.
